Tea bowl
Tea bowl
Tea bowl with what can be described as my signature decoration in the hakemi style, this is to use a stiff naturally made brush to create brush marks into the surface of the slip.
The slip know as a biscuit slip or crackle slip is highly refractory, meaning it has a resistance to heat and is very hard to melt, because of this, when the clay body shrinks the slip will crack. this creates an attractive crackled texture under the glaze which I find particularly attractive.
This piece has a lovely fluid movement, like tall grasses moving in the wind. the glaze is a simple ash glaze which is translucent and shows off the the slip decoration. The glaze has collected as it melted around the foot-ring and demonstrates an attractive Chun blue.
My makers mark is stamped into the foot-ring
